So my blog has been completely neglected.....

Well hello y'all.......

Just wanted to let everyone know that my custom sessions are now fully booked (but I could possibly be begged to do one more - because I am a sucker like that - LOL). The Holiday Mini Sessions - Noel Magique - have only a few more spots left. So if you are interested make sure you call and reserve your spots quickly!!! Well, today I did my final session in Michigan before we move. It was for a VERY dear friend of mine and her beautiful family. Over the past 5 days I have shot over 1400 images.....my back is SORE! LOL

In a couple of days, the family will be packed up and headed down to Orlando, FL where we will reside. Well actually, first we have a dance competition / mini vacation in the panhandle.

Orange Kite Photography offices will be closed June 22nd - July 10th while we transition. We will return with LOTS of fun new things for you!!!

Thank you to all of my MI clients and friends who have supported and encouraged me in pursuing my dream. I will be back every summer for several weeks and will be doing limited sessions while I am here. Two pictures to share from a recent session. My wonderful friend and hair stylist Emily asked me to do her family photos. What a priviledge that was! They are the most beautiful family both inside and out. I had a great time, got a ton of hugs, laughed a lot and even got some skippin' in!!

The kids decided to play in the pool we pulled out for the garage sale (since they haven't used it in three years). I took this picture of them.....all the summer memories of them as babies in that pool came flooding back. So I set out on a mission to find a picture of them in together in the pool when they were little. After two hours of digging through digital and film pictures, I couldn't find one of all three of them but I did find a couple of cute and funny random ones to share!

And this is one of those I am sure will be brought up in counseling....."and then she left me there and grabbed the CAMERA first!!"

Okay, to answer all the questions.....I am here and alive and well. I have not given up on my project 365 and have some pictures to catch up on for you. :)

I have been really busy updating my site and packages for 2009! SUPER exciting changes coming! The current site has some new photos and information on it. So please go check it out.

As most of you know, my family and my business are high tailing it down on the warm and oh so sunny state of Florida!! The futures so bright I've got to wear shades! We will be located 10 minutes north of Disney so PLEASE stop by when you are visiting "the Rat Factory" (as I am told the locals it). During the summers I will be visiting Michigan and available for a limited number of sessions. So keep up that blog stalking! And on that note, if you go to the calendar section on the site, I have my available dates through the end of June (though we may be here longer). They are filling up REALLY fast. Giving is Awesome was founded in December of 2008. It was a simple premise: photographers give a portrait shoot and products to a family who deserves it, but can’t afford it. In the twelve weeks since then, over 530 photographers have donated over $550,000 worth of custom portraiture to families who couldn’t afford it. Artists in places as far flung as Australia, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and Mexico joined in. Giving is Awesome is also featured in this month’s issue of Professional Photographer magazine, and we’re looking to continue to spread the word about giving. Lenovo and Microsoft are sponsoring the ‘Name Your Dream Assignment’ contest, which grants $50,000 to the photographer who wins to shoot whatever/wherever they would like.

What better way to spread the word than to load 12 photographers into a tour bus and hit up cities with Giving is Awesome shoots? The blog traffic generated by the tour would easily reach 50,000 photographers per day, thus multiplying the number of photographers who sign on for the 2009 version of Giving is Awesome. (The goal: 15,000 photographers for the 2009 edition.)

…but how would we decide who to shoot for those tour bus Giving is Awesome giveaways? Why, we would rely on our friends at ConKerr Cancer, an international charity, to provide our subjects: children currently living with cancer. We’d be bringing awareness of both utterly smashing organizations to light, spreading the photographic love, AND rockin’ a tour bus! Now we’re talkin’!

What if this project doesn’t cost $50,000? Easy! ConKerr Cancer receives the funds to purchase cameras for their chapter coordinators, less the expenses of the tour. This allows the impact of the tour to go much further than the people on the bus, or even the photographers associated with Giving is Awesome. It’s the ripple effect in its truest form, giving sparking giving sparking giving.

It occurred to me during our New Year's celebration that next year we can't wear glasses that our eyes peek out of two zeros for quite awhile.....what will we do???!!! LOL

Well, I am back to work and booked up for January! I could probably squeeze in one session if you begged. :) I hope everyone had a super great Holiday season! We certainly did lots of celebrating and relaxing. It was a wonderful Christmas this year!!

Here is an image from the last session I did. It was little Sammie's first birthday! We also did a fun cake smashing and will share some pics form that later on.

Stephanie A.!!!!

There was NO way I could pick one of these awesome nominees. So, I assembled a "panel" to carefully consider each nominations.

Every one of the people or families nominated were deserving and will be receiving a mini session and photo gift from me (details will be sent to them after the holidays).

The nomination letter....

Last year, Stephanie fought a battle with cancer and during that battle for her life, she lost her job, her apartment and struggled with unending pain. She finally went into remission and met a man who she felt was everything she had been looking for. They married in Feburary after a very short engagement and soon after things began to fall apart. Her husband began to treat her differently. He slowly became more and more abusive and it wasn't until Stephanie found out she was pregnant did she decide to leave for the safety of her baby. She is now due to have her baby in a few weeks and though she was able to get a low income apartment, she lives off of disability. She wants nothing to do with her husband (whom she is trying to divorce) and found out that he has an abusive track record so she does not want to ask for child support. She is determined to raise little "J" on her own. She has an amazing faith in God and He has taken care of her needs, but I think she deserves a few "wants". I know the distance might be a challenge, but I would love for you to photograph hhim after he is born. He is all she has and I know she will barely be able to provide the necessities let alone something as amazing as you could do for her. If she is chosen, instead of Todd and I receiving a prize, perhaps you could use the money for gas to get up to her residence. Thanks for considering her!!

It has not even hit 20 degrees in the past few days. We have over 2 feet of snow in our yard and it is WAY too cold for the kids to even enjoy it.

So, is your shopping done? My is not and after sliding into a ditch last night with my husband, I am NOT going out tonight by myself. So I will finish in the morning and my sweet hubby will work from home.

I love Christmas. It is my favorite time of year by far! Why you ask? Because I love, love, love to give my family and friends gifts. I love the whole experience from thinking about what would be perfect for them to seeing the expression on their face when they open it. It is the way I express my love.

The last few years have been really tough on our family with the economy and starting up not one but two business. Through the intense struggles I have gained an even deeper understanding of what is really important in life and a deeper compassion for those that are struggling.

A couple of Christmases ago I sat fighting back the tears because my heart was so sad that there were barely any gifts under our tree for our kids and most were hand made because that was all we could do. My daughter opened a gift from her brother and as she slipped the red plastic heart ring onto her finger she exclaimed, "Ryen, this is the most beautiful thing anyone EVER gave me! Thank you so much!" As I watched the exchange of hugs, laughter and tears my heart was full of joy and hope and one thing became abundantly clear......comparing yourselves to others is a ridiculous waste of time because true love and joy can not be bought it can only be given.

So here's the deal.......

You know someone. You know someone who's experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can't afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family's spirit, love, and beauty.

You are probably completely over Halloween by now BUT here are a few pictures. We had our 2nd Annual Trick or Treating/Daddy and Mr. Abraham's Birthday party. It was a blast!!

Anyone who knows me, knows that not only am I a smart aleck but I am a jokester as well!! So, on Saturday night while I was getting ready to go out with my girlfriends to the "So You Think You Can Dance" Tour, a little evil grin started to spread across my face and I ran for my phone to call Kristine. I suggested that we show up in some of our dance costumes from the past to Michelle's house. We agreed that Michelle would roll with laughter. When we got their Michelle was gone picking up her son from a birthday party and her mom was cracking up and told us that Michelle was going to totally freak and think we were actually going dressed like that! Well, that was like saying sick em to a a dog. Needless, to say we yanked poor Michelle's chain for awhile with that one!!! What a laugh we had!

Hi everyone!!!

This month has been INSANE! Why do we try to cram every bit of our summer fun into the last month??? LOL

Ryen is on the Oxford Junior Wildcat football team. He is doing great and having a blast! He got his official "football nickname" tonight. The coach was calling his name and mispronounced it. Ryen was correcting him again and they started joking around. Coach said, "DeVgood, DeVogue, De Voo Voo....Hey, we'll just call you VooDoo because you got charm and you will be our secret weapon." Needless to say it was a momumental moment with the man folk in our home. A rite of passage per say.

Cady and Lauren made the pre-competitive dance team at their studio and are just doing amazing! I can't believe how much they have improved over the summer.

6 more days until school starts.........I am sad to leave the warm weather behind and the fun times hanging out with my family BUT the thought of having 5 UNINTERRUPTED hours is sounding pretty devine.

There are no words to explain the deep contentment that fills my soul when I am on beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. My heart soars there, my dreams take flight and all my anxieties and worries fade away.

The day Bruce and I arrived in our hotel room, I took a long, deep breath and savored the aroma of sea as it filled my lungs. My heart giggled with delight as the warmth of the sun kissed my cheeks and as I opened my eyes I saw the white sandy beach extending its great arms and call to me "Your home!!"

Oh, did I mention that I am bringing my hubby but the kids are not coming! Though I will miss my little angels dearly, I am looking forward to our first trip away together in over 8 years. I am feeling all giddy inside!!! Love that man! Suppose that is why I said "I do!"

I just got back from my weekend photography workshop. I learned a ton this weekend!! Two of the girls stayed at our house and they spent a ton of time teaching me photoshop and studio light tricks.Thank you Julie and Deanna, I am so glad I met you two and can't wait to get together with you again. And a big thank you to Skye for hostessing this workshop!

I am done with my Portfolio Building and am SO excited to get my business growing. SO, I have decided to have a summer business building special!!

Yesterday, I took Ryen to get his hair cut and the girls decided they wanted their's cut too. Lauren had about 4 inches taken off and Cady about 8 inches! I was a little hestitant but they look adorable!!!! Can you tell Ryen was thrilled to have his picture taken?

My gorgeous, intelligent and very talented children had their artwork displayed at the school art exhibit. Okay, so every kid was in it but come on theirs were AWESOME!!! The girls and I could not attend due to recital practice but Cady asked Daddy to please go and video tape everything they did and Mom asked Daddy for some pictures.

Isn't she just adorable? That curly hair and the most infectious smile....she had me at "hello". LOL Miss Ella and I had a great time at our little downtown park. She was lovin' that I brought umbrellas, so we had alot of pictures with them. She insisted. ;) The whole time I was editting her session I was singing the Rihanna song....

Senior Session

I did my first Senior Session with the FABULOUS Savanna!!! She is SO beautiful and I had the best time photographing her. She is an amazing person and I know she will be a huge success at whatever she does in life. Here is the image we used for my promo card.

I did actually type I would post pictures but seriously I have no idea what I was thinking!! This is recital week and I am so the dance mom! :) I love watching my dear sweet angels twinkle about on their tip toes looking super, uber cute!!! Here is a quick pic I took of them to practice for some dance pictures for my friends (which I will share AFTER recital time is over).

Also, I think I will be combining my personal and business blog together because I can't keep up on both.

I am sorry for the lack of posting. Between school functions, dance rehearsals, a ton of photo shoots and being sick.....I have found myself nelecting my blog. I have a TON of pictures to post and will get to it starting tomorrow!

i had one of those begining photographer nightmares. unfortunately, i was not asleep. the night before this shoot i had been taking pictures of my son at gymnastics. i did this entire session on 3200ISO. thank goodness my friend jen was super gracious about it and we are retaking photos this week. here are some of my favorites even though they may only make it in a wallet. LOL

my dear friend kristina's son mason is just a heart breaker. he is so gorgeous and full of life. i love photographing him. here are some of his pictures from his "four" year old session (he turned 4 in march 2007)........we are doing is five year old session in a few months. LOL

these poses came naturally but when I saw them I knew that had to be together. it is like the angel vs. the devil on his shoulders.

Gina and Rolando are just a the most beautiful couple.......both inside and out. We did a second maternity session in studio. I could photograph them every week and never tire of it.
